To have Joggo run smoothly, you need to modify some settings to make sure the app doesn't fall asleep in the background when you're working out.
Android 11+
On Android 11, Samsung will prevent apps from working in the background by default unless you exclude apps from battery optimization.
Turn off battery optimization
Follow these steps to turn off battery optimization:
- Open your phone's Settings app (not the settings of Joggo);
- Click Apps > Battery > Battery optimization > All apps > Joggo > Don’t optimize.
Optimize battery usage
To avoid your phone from falling asleep during your run, follow these steps:
- Open your phone's Settings app.
- Go to the Apps > (⁝) menu > Special Access > Optimize battery usage > All apps
- Toggle Joggo off lists of Sleeping apps, Unused apps, Deep sleeping apps, Never sleeping apps
Next, make sure Joggo isn't falling asleep:
- Open your phone's Settings.
- Go to Battery > Background usage limits.
- Put Joggo on the never sleeping apps list.
Recommended extra step: Make sure Put unused apps to sleep is disabled.
Less important settings
You could also turn off automatic daily optimization and adaptive power saving. To do so:
- Open your phone's Settings.
- Go to the Open Battery > (⁝) menu > Choose Automation.
- Turn off auto-optimize daily.
Alternatively, to do the same:
- Open your phone's Settings.
- Click Device care > 3-dot menu (⁝) > Advanced.
- Disable Auto-optimization.
To turn off the adaptive battery:
- Go to your phone's Settings.
- Open Battery > More battery settings.
- Disable Adaptive battery.
Android 9–10
Battery optimization is turned on by default. It is possible the disabled restrictions might get reverted after an OS update or reboot. By default, any app not started in 3 days is put to sleep, and background tasks, including alarms, will stop working.
Important settings

Android 7–8
Important settings
App power monitor
The setting that might impede the performance of Joggo is App power monitor. It can be turned off completely, or you can manage the apps individually.
For your apps to work correctly in the background, you need to whitelist them in the App power monitor and add them to the Unmonitored apps. To do so:
- Open your phone's Settings (not the Settings in the Joggo app)
- Go to Device maintenance > Battery
- At the bottom you’ll see a list of your most frequently used apps. Apps that are sleeping will appear in the Sleeping apps list at the bottom (tap it to expand the list). List of Unmonitored apps is at the very bottom (longer scrolling is needed) – these are apps that you specifically want to exclude (whitelist) from App power monitor.
- Open the Unmonitored apps menu.
- Tap the 3-dot menu to delete Joggo from the list.
Please note
Even when you remove an app from the restricted list, Samsung may re-add them later after a update or when it identifies it is using too many resources! Therefore, it's important to recheck these settings if the app starts malfunctioning.
