To keep Joggo working smoothly on your Samsung phone, you’ll need to adjust a few settings, allowing the app to remain active in the background while you’re out there enjoying your run.
Android 11+
In the Android 11 OS, Samsung stops apps from running in the background by default. You can keep them working by excluding apps from Battery Optimization. Let’s take a look at how to do so:
Turn off Battery Optimization
Please follow these steps to turn off Battery Optimization on your phone:
Open your phone's Settings > Go to Apps > Click Battery > Go to Battery optimization > Click All Apps > Select Joggo > Select Don’t Optimize.
Optimize battery usage
Keep your phone from falling asleep by following these steps:
- Open your phone's Settings > Go to Apps > Click on the three-dot (⁝) menu > Go to Special Access > Click Optimize Battery Usage > Go to All Apps > Toggle Joggo off from the Sleeping Apps, Unused Apps, and Never Sleeping Apps lists.
Next, make sure the Joggo app isn't falling asleep, by following these steps:
- Open your phone's Settings > Go to Battery > Go to Background Usage Limits > Put Joggo on the Never Sleeping Apps list.
- Recommended extra step: Make sure Put Unused Apps to Sleep setting is disabled.
Less important settings
You could also turn off Automatic Daily Optimization and Adaptive Power Saving to stop closing your background apps. To do so, please follow these steps:
- Open your phone's Settings > Go to the Open Battery > Open the three-dot (⁝) menu > Choose Automation > Turn off Auto-optimize Daily.
Alternatively, you can try this route:
- Open your phone's Settings > Click Device care > Go to the three-dot (⁝) menu > Tap Advanced > Disable Auto-optimization.
To turn off the Adaptive Battery, follow these steps:
- Open your phone's Settings > Go to Battery > Select More Battery Settings > Disable Adaptive Battery.
Android 9–10
On Android OS 9–10, Battery Optimization is enabled by default. Keep in mind that disabled restrictions may reset after an OS update or system reboot. In such cases, apps unused for 3 days enter sleep mode, causing background tasks like alarms to stop working. To avoid this, check out the settings below:

App power monitor
Turning on the App Power Monitor setting on your phone might cause troubles for the performance of Joggo. The setting can be turned off completely, or you can manage the apps individually. Please follow the steps below to exclude apps in the App Power Monitor individually and to make sure your background apps run smoothly:
Open your phone's Settings > Go to Device Maintenance > Go to Battery > At the bottom of the screen, you’ll see the list of your most frequently used apps. Apps that are sleeping will appear in the Sleeping Apps list at the bottom (tap it to expand the list). The List of Unmonitored Apps is at the very bottom (longer scrolling is needed). These are the apps that you specifically want to exclude (whitelist) from the App Power Monitor > Open the Unmonitored Apps menu > Go to the three-dot (⁝) menu > Delete Joggo from the list.
Please note: Even when you remove an app from the restricted list, Samsung may re-add them later after an update or when it identifies it is using too many resources. Therefore, it's important to recheck these settings if the app starts malfunctioning.
